Writing Resources for Noobs

So I have been very interested in writing my own book recently because:
  1. It is something I have always wanted to do
  2. It's a positive and time consuming hobby that keeps me out of trouble
  3. There is so much I want to get out of my head and share with the world
  4. It's a great outlet for creative expression
  5. It keeps my creative mind sharp
  6. I enjoy and entertained by the stories and characters I create
  7. It allows me to explore other personalities and sides of myself I might not have been aware of
Since I am "new" to story writing, I have been Googling different topics and I have found so many amazing and free resources that I want to always keeps links and I think will be helpful to anyone on a writing journey.

Creative-writing-now.com:  At this site you'll find creative writing coursesideaspromptsfree online classes, and step-by-step guides to writing fiction, poetry, and drama. I love their approach and what the lessons/information they provide is brilliant.

Woman of Worth - Is There a Book in You?

I have been a female entrepreneur for over 15 years now in the technology industry and have always had a very strong affinity towards other woman business owners. I started my career as a graphic designer, which eventually lead me to becoming the creative director of the late Female Entrepreneur Magazine, from 2002-2005.

During this time, I was fortunate enough to meet many wonderful and inspiring woman who all had something amazing to offer. They all shared a passion for business and a strong will to live a life based on their own terms. It also confirmed in me the fearlessness it takes to pursue and be successful at entrepreneurship. Being surrounded by this type of energy & combined with my own intuitions, guided the direction of my professional life ever since. Above all else professionally, I know I am first and foremost an entrepreneur.

ENTREPRENEUR is not a job description, it's a PERSONALITY TYPE.

The time of Female Entrepreneur Magazine I was only 23, but that was many moons ago, and since then I have dabbled into many different business ventures and life experiences. Some failed, some successful but most importantly it has lead me to my current state of purpose which is to inspire and help other young woman wanting to find their purpose and meaning.

I am currently the CEO of a game studio start-up Lucky Lady Games, where we specialize in developing game apps for social networks. This is without a doubt a passion of mine, not sure if it is my 'one-thing' but I definitely feel I am exactly where I need to be at this current moment in time.

I believe my next stage is life coaching, and long story short, I also believe that in order to be a good life coach, you need the proper credentials and skill sets (which I am now seeking to achieve). Part of these credentials include reaching many of my personal goals and a certain level of success which I am proud of. One of the goals in particular that I am aiming to achieve in 2013 is to be a published author.

(Always aim high & for the stars right?! :)

The Universe ALWAYS provides...

Within the same week of my decision to write a book, I recieve a Linkedin message from a lady by the name of Christine Awram (Founder of WOW - Woman of Worth), about an event she is hosting along side Julie Salisbury (Founder of Influence Publishing), about getting published.

A summary of the night included:
  • The BIG changes that have been happening in publishing.
  • How to get published and why.
  • Steps for getting started on your book (if you haven't).
  • Your most important next steps (if you're already underway).
  • How being a published author can catapult your business.
  • The power of a collaborative vs the lone ranger.
  • What you need to know about being a published best-selling author.
  • Can you actually make money from your published book?
Wow! If there was to be a sign... this must be one!

Christine & I at the WOW publishing event.
A Hidden Gem in the Woman's Business Network Vancouver

The event was surprisingly inspiring and well run. The setting was intimate & cozy, paper & pens were provided along with light snacks, jelly beans and chocolate! The cost of the event was more than reasonable and the quality of woman from all walks of life at the event was also notable.

Christine Awram herself was an inspiring  down to earth and knowledgeable person. She was well spoken, natural and best of all, able to laugh at herself. Upon, viewing her site, I think shamefully she might be one of Vancouver's best kept secrets in woman's networking events. Please visit her site at http://www.thewowevent.com to view more about WOW and their up-coming events.

If you are a woman entrepreneur looking for some kind of inspiration and spark towards your life purpose, I really think these WOW events are a great place to start.

My fellow writing friend summed up the event greatly...

"I wanted to thank you again for inviting me last night. It was a bit of an epiphany for me because, honestly, I haven't worked on my book for months... I haven't been living my purpose...that came home to me last night and it was kind of emotional. Thank you for being my friend and for reminding me what's important."

You will also get to meet other inspiring woman who are on their journey & seeking out their purpose. A particular I would like to give a shout out to is Sara Towe. I think she has amazing things to share that the world needs to hear. Check out her inspiring & truth seeking website at: http://choosepositiveliving.com/

Until next time, stay fearless!

Side note: This was probably one of the first times where LinkedIn was actually useful, beyond the regular corporate creepin' of course.
